Notes
1. Surname also recorded as Dene.
2. Or did Eliza survive infancy and marry James Thomas Harris at Withycombe Raleigh in 1852?
3. Did Anne (recorded as Mary Ann) marry Richard Thomas Howcroft in London in 1858 and emigrate with him? The 1861 census lists Richard and Anne (recorded as Ann) in Blissett Street, Greenwich.
4. Married at the parish church of St Philip, Salford in 1865. William is recorded as a 38-year-old bachelor, a private in the 64th Regiment of Foot (he would have needed the permission of his commanding officer to marry, and would have forfeited a day’s pay). His address is given as Salford Barracks and his father Samuel Yeo is recorded as a labourer. Fanny is a 27-year-old spinster of Lord Duncan Street; her father William Kinsey is a coffee roaster.
5. William’s army record shows that he served in India from 1846 to 1866. He was awarded the India Medal and received a commendation.
6. Widow of Wallace John Robery Woodbury.
7. The 1901 census records them at 7 Charles Street. Elias was working as a house painter.
8. William and Louisa emigrated to the United States in 1911 on the SS Olympic. They lived in New York but later returned and lived in Gloucestershire.
9. 1880–1956, widow of William John Limpenny.
