Ann Yeo (1799–1880, second daughter of William Yeo and Ann Dawes) was baptised at Sampford Courtenay [note 1]. She married Nathaniel Pidgeon at Exeter Cathedral in 1835 [note 2]. There is no record of their having children, and they remained in Exeter for the rest of their lives.
The 1861 census for Exeter records Nathaniel and Ann in Paragon Place. Nathaniel is a 53-year-old porter and Ann is 60.
The 1871 census records them at 13 Paragon Place, South Street. Nathaniel is a 64-year-old general dealer and Ann is 73.
Ann died in 1880, her death registered at Exeter in the fourth quarter of the year, with her age recorded as 84.
Nathaniel is recorded as a widower in the 1881 census, a 73-year-old lodger living in Paragon Place in the household of shoe maker John Mann. His birthplace is recorded as Powderham, consistent with his birthplace as stated in earlier censuses.

1. Ann’s birthplace is consistently recorded as Sampford Courtenay in the census records, but there are discrepancies in her stated age.
2. They married by banns and were both recorded as ‘of the close’. The Close is the area immediately around the cathedral – the record is headed ‘Marriages solemnized in the Parish of Precinct of the Close’. There were three witnesses, including a Mary Yeo who might have been the bride’s sister. The groom’s forename is recorded as Nathanael.
