Richard Percy Yeo Cross

Flight Lieutanant Richard Percy Yeo Cross died on 29 May 1940 at the age of 25. He is buried at the cemetery at Herne Bay in Kent.

The inscription on his headstone includes the wording ‘killed on active service’ – he was stationed in Kent with 235 Squadron, Coastal Command, and was flying a Mark IV Bristol Blenheim, which crashed near Sittingbourne during an attempted landing.

Richard – known as Dick – was born in 1914, the youngest of three children of Percy Edgar Cross and Mary Agatha von Bibra, who married at Streatham in 1906. It is not known why he was given the forename Yeo.
