Henry Hagner Steiner, a surgeon (1816–1892), married Susannah Wilhelmina Yohe (1811–1871) at a Presbyterian ceremony in Philadelphia on 10 July 1838. The groom is recorded as ‘of Maryland’ and the bride as ‘of Philadelphia’. Henry’s second forename is sometimes recorded as Hegner. Susannah’s surname has been recorded as Yoe.
They had four children. The 1870 census records them in Augusta, Georgia: Henry is a 54-year-old surgeon born in Maryland, Susannah is 50 and their children range in age from 16 to 30. They also have four servants.
After Susannah’s death, Henry married Katherine Fitzsimmons Alston on 1 July 1874 in Richmond County, Georgia.
