The 1871 census for Lyme Regis records pensioner seaman William Fowler at Town Mills. His age is shown as 54 and he was born locally. Listed with William is his 45-year-old wife Harriett Yeo, a needlewoman whose birthplace is recorded as ‘Devon Oakhampton’ [note 1].
William Fowler and Harriet Yeo married in 1849 (marriage registered at Stoke Damerel).
William and Harriet died in 1888 and 1887 respectively. They had children in 1847 and 1852, neither of whom is shown in the 1871 census return.

Note
1. There is no matching baptism record for Harriet at Okehampton, so perhaps she was from one of the nearby villages or the census record is inaccurate. The 1841 census for Stoke Damerel records a Harriett Yeo of approximately 25 years of age, working as a servant at the St Aubyn Hotel.
