John Yeo was baptised at Kilkhampton in 1798 to parents Philip Yeo and Elizabeth Hallett. He married Ann Weare at the parish church in Kilkhampton in 1838 [note 1], shortly after the start of civil registration. Ann was baptised Ann Barrett at Morwenstow about 1799 [note 2] and had previously married John Weare at Kilkhampton in 1826.
John and Ann lived at Kilkhampton – the 1851 census records John there as a boot maker. They had seven children [note 3]:
– Elizabeth Ann Yeo (born 1838, died as an infant)
– Elizabeth Ann Yeo (1840–1906, married William Symons Short)
– John Yeo (1839–1839)
– Emma Yeo (1841–1841)
– John Gregory Yeo (1842–1923)
– Emma Yeo (born 1844)
– unnamed daughter (1847–1847).
John and Ann are recorded in Kilkhampton in the 1861 census, but later appear to have been living separately. John died in 1883 and Ann continued to live in Kilkhampton; the 1881 census records her there as a widow and she appears not to have re-married. She had four further children [note 4]:
– William Henry Yeo (see below)
– Mary Jane Yeo (born 1863)
– Thomas Yeo (born 1864)
– Charlie Yeo (baptised 1869).
William Henry Yeo (born 1862 at Kilkhampton, son of Ann Yeo [note 5]) married Selina Bonetto [note 6]. Their first daughter was born at Kilkhampton:
– Edith Yeo (born 1889)
followed by four more children born at Bude:
– Beatrice Mary Yeo (1892–1895)
– William Henry Yeo (1890–1956)
– John Thomas Yeo (1898–1967, married Emily Ada Alice Samways 1921)
– Ernest Yeo (1902–1902).

Notes
1. A transcription by Humphrey Toms records the parish as Launcells. Perhaps Ann had a connection to Launcells and a note was entered in the Launcells register of her re-marriage at Kilhampton?
2. Baptism record not found. Some researchers have recorded her surname as Burrow or Burrows.
3. Children identified from baptism and burial records where civil registration records are absent. Further study of the census returns for Kilkhampton is needed, to clarify the comments above about John and Ann living separately.
4. Ann appears to have died in 1883.
5. On William’s birth certifcate, his mother is recorded as Ann Yeo formerly Gist. Did she marry three times, or was inaccurate information given to the registrar?
6. Marriage registered 1899 at East Stonehouse. They are recorded at 5 Granville Terrace, Bude in the 1901 census with their children Edith, William and John. Selina’s surname has been recorded as Bonnetta: was she related to Robert Bonnetta, who married Charlotte Yeo at Kilkhampton?
7. Born at Bude, married at Walthamstow, died in Hertfordshire.
