John Yeo (baptised 1703 at Swimbridge, son of Samuel Yeo and Susanna Laney [note 1]) married Elizabeth Slowley in 1730. They had four sons:
– Samuel Yeo (1731–1772, married Elizabeth Burgess, four children including Samuel Burgess Yeo)
– John Yeo (1734–1795, married Mary Yeo) [note 2]
– William Yeo (baptised 1736, married Margaret Bendle, four sons and three daughters including Elias Yeo and Samuel Yeo, see below)
– Henry Yeo
Elias Yeo (1766–1832, son of William Yeo and Margaret Bendle) married Elizabeth Symons at Loxhore in 1796. They baptised eight children at Swimbridge:

– Grace Yeo (1804–1889, married Richard Jarman) [note 4]

Samuel Yeo (1774–1850, son of William Yeo and Margaret Bendle) married Elizabeth Wedlake at Heanton Punchardon in 1799; their eight children were baptised in the same parish:

William Yeo (1798–1850, son of Elias Yeo and Elizabeth Symons) married Charity Pugsley [note 8] at Swimbridge in 1830. Their seven children were baptised there:

Elizabeth Yeo (1804–1886, daughter of Samuel Yeo and Elizabeth Wedlake) married Richard Tucker at Braunton in 1832. Their children included:
– John Yeo Tucker (1848–1920, married Alice Elizabeth Dunn) [notes 10, 11].
John Yeo (baptised 1811 at Swimbridge, son of Elias Yeo and Elizabeth Symons) married Grace Harding at the parish church of St Peter, Barnstaple in 1836. They baptised three daughters at Landkey:
– Elizabeth Yeo (baptised 1837)
– Mary Anne Yeo (baptised 1838)
– Maria Yeo (1841–1918, married Henry Harris at Bishop’s Tawton in 1866).
George Yeo (1844–1927, son of William Yeo and Charity Pugsley [note 15]) married Eliza Buzzacott. They lived at Swimbridge, where their ten children were born:

Samuel Yeo (1873–1943, son of William Yeo and Fanny Kinsey) married Betsy Pass. They had eight children:

James Yeo (1878–1949, son of George Yeo and Eliza Buzzacott [note 19]) married Ellen Hooper [note 20]. Their three daughters were born at Swimbridge:

– Vera Kathleen Yeo (1911–1943, married Jack Gregory in 1933)
– Phyllis Muriel Yeo (born 1914, married J. Chalmers [note 21]).

Notes
1. John’s cousin John Yeo was baptised at Swimbridge in 1701. Of these two John Yeos, one married Joan Delney at Swimbridge in 1727 and the other married Elizabeth Slowley at Swimbridge in 1730. We cannot be sure which John Yeo married Elizabeth and which married Joan – but as John and Elizabeth named their first son Samuel it is more likely that the pedigree was as set out above. Other researchers may disagree.
2. Mary has not been identified, but the marriage record (Swimbridge, 1768) indicates that she was previously unmarried and was living in Swimbridge.
3. Marriage requires confirmation.
4. Is Grace part of this family?
4a. Baptised as Sally Yeo, death registered as Sarah Balment.
4b. Surname recorded in the parish register as Ballmand.
4c. Mary died in 1886. No record of Thomas’s death has been found – he has also been recorded as Thomas George Yeo, but no records have been found to support this.
8. 1800–1880. Age inaccurately recorded as 86 when her death was registered.
9. Née Philbey, 1856–1932. Married four times, to: John Watts 1880, James McGonnell 1892, John Yeo 1901, Harry Perkins 1922.
10. Did John and Alice have a son John Yeo Tucker (c1873–1922), whose death was registered at Bedford?
11. The 1881 census records John Yeo Tucker, age 29, living in Braunton. He is unmarried, working as a boot and shoe merchant and his widowed mother Elizabeth Yeo, age 78, is listed with him.
15. Some researchers have confused George with the George Yeo who married Elizabeth Squire Yendle and Mary Ann Rottenbury.
19. A report of James’s funeral was published in the North Devon Journal on 21 July 1949. It refers to him as ‘of Church Cottage, Swimbridge’ and to his death in hospital in Barnstaple. The service took place at the parish church in Swimbridge.
20. Also recorded as Helen.
21. Phyllis is recorded with the married surname Chalmers in her father’s 1949 funeral report, which also mentions his son-in-law Mr J. Chalmers as a mourner, and the 1939 Register for Barnstaple annotated with Chalmers as her married surname. No marriage record has been found, and it seems likely that she married outside England and Wales – possibly in 1947. Sheila Yeo recorded her as Phyllis Mary Yeo.
