Gerald Francis Yeo – professor of physiology

A lengthy obituary of Professor Gerald Francis Yeo (1845–1909) was published in the British Medical Journal [note 1]. The obituary refers to his studies at Trinity College, Dublin, to his medical career, to his professorship at King’s College, London, to his interests outside medicine and to his retirement to south Devon.

Gerald Francis Yeo was the second of three sons of Henry Yeo and Jane Ann Ferns. He married twice: to Charlotte Jane Crougham Kitchin in Cheshire in 1873 and to Augusta Frances Hunt in Ireland in 1886. Gerald and his second wife Augusta had a son:
– Sandford Hailsham Yeo (1887–1934, married Katherine Emily Barry and Olive Newport) [note 2].

2. Sandford was educated at Eton and joined the Devonshire regiment, serving in France and India. He had a daughter from his first marriage: Katharine Beatrice Helsham Yeo (1913–1955, married Richard Gordon Mansel Darwall and K.S. Duncan).
