Daniel Yeo Bruton died at the age of 85 – his death was registered in the Rochford district in the first quarter of 1922. The 1911 census records Daniel as a boarding house keeper in Heathfield, a Sussex town a few miles north of Eastbourne.
His mother was Mary Kentish and his paternal grandmother was Mary Sanders, so there is no obvious Yeo family member to provide the source for his second forename.
It is likely, therefore, that it is derived from the Bruton family’s former association with Yeo Vale at Alwington. A John Bruton is believed to have purchased the property there in the 1680s, and it remained in the Bruton family for at least a century.
