William Yeo of Teignmouth

A correspondent has asked about an entry in the 1850 edition of Pigot’s Directory of Devonshire. It lists a William Yeo as a grocer and tea dealer at 15 Northumberland Place, Teignmouth. This will have been his business address but he might well have lived there too. Northumberland Place is close to the harbour, in the centre of the town.

Was this the same William Yeo who appears nine years earlier in the 1841 census return for Teignmouth? It lists a William Yeo living in Northumberland Place, aged 48, but gives his occupation as ‘Ropemaker’. Is either William connected to rope makers Samuel and Ephraim Yeo of Teigngrace?
