Douglas Yeo (1925–2010, son of Sydney Ellis Yeo and Hilda Beatrice Crossman) was a physicist. He took part in studies of the behaviour of locust swarms in Kenya and Tanganyika from 1945. Douglas married Joan Elizabeth Chell married at Holcombe Burnell near Exeter in 1947. They had two daughters [note 1].

The passenger list for the P&O liner Madura, which left London on 26 October 1951 bound for Mombasa, includes 26-year-old Douglas Yeo, his 24-year-old wife Joan and their one-year old daughter. Their home address is recorded as 66 Truro Road, St Austell and their destination as Tanganyika.

A second passenger list – for the SS Kenya in 1957 – records Douglas and Joan again travelling to Tanganyika, this time with both daughters.
