The 1871 census [note 1] records 48-year-old Richard W. Yeo in Plaistow Lane, West Ham. His birthplace is shown as Lambeth and his occupation as a clerk at a debtors’ court [note 2]. Listed with Richard are his wife Mary Ann Yeo (age 38, born in Lambeth) and three children, whose birthplace is given as Westminster: Richard W. Yeo (age 10), Emily A. Yeo (6) and Frederick G. Yeo (3).
Richard William Yeo (1822–1871) was baptised in London to parents Thomas Yeo and Ann Greathurst. He did not marry Mary Ann Macdonald née Bloodworth [note 3] , but they lived together and had at least three children [note 4]:

– Emily Alice Yeo (1864–1924, married Henry Aiano)
– Frederick George Yeo (1866–1930).
Richard William Yeo (1861–1931, son of Richard William Yeo and Mary Ann Macdonald née Bloodworth) married Eliza Mary Bailey [note 5]. They had two daughters:
– Alice Eliza Yeo (born 1885)
– Mary Alice Yeo (born 1888).

Notes
1. Richard and his family have not been found in the 1861 census, but appear to have been living at 61 Tachbrook Street in Pimlico. His son Richard was born there in March 1861, the month before the census, and his other two children were born there in 1864 and 1866. The returns for odd-numbered houses in Tachbrook Street are missing from the 1861 census, although the returns for the even-numbered houses (RG9/51/3–18) have survived.
2. Richard’s occupation is shown as law clerk on the 1883 marriage certificate of his daughter Emily.
3. 1833–1891, also recorded as Marian Harriet Bloodworth. Baptised at Lambeth to parents Elisha Bloodworth and Alice Ruth Campbell. Married John James Macdonald at the parish church of St Margaret, Westminster in 1854. Death registration not found.

5. Richard is recorded in the 1881 census at 5 Plaistow Lane, West Ham, as Richard Yeo, born at Pimlico, a 20-year-old labourer in a chemical works. In a separate household at the same address is his future wife Eliza Bailey, age 13, living with her widowed mother and two brothers.
