William Yeo (1764–1824) was a son of Robert Yeo and Elizabeth Bennett of Sampford Courtenay and a grandson of William Yeo and Wilmot Aller of the same parish. He married Ann Dawes at Black Torrington in 1791; their eight children were baptised at Sampford Courtenay:

John Yeo (1802–1879) moved to Taunton and married Hannah Coles. They baptised eight children at nonconformist ceremonies in Taunton, where John worked as a shoemaker:

William Yeo (baptised in 1805 at Sampford Courtenay, son of William Yeo and Ann Dawes) married Jane Brealy in 1835. They had five children:

Caroline Yeo was born in Taunton in 1848, the youngest daughter of John Yeo and Hannah Coles. She moved to London, married twice, and died in Buckinghamshire in 1913. Her first marriage was to Samuel Quick in 1876: Samuel ran the Maypole Inn at Hitcham, they had no children and Samuel died in 1898. Caroline’s second marriage was in 1905 to widower William Horwood; she died eight years later.

This photograph from Jennifer Kevern was taken at Hitcham in 1905 on the day of the marriage of William Horwood and Caroline Quick née Yeo. Caroline is sitting with her back to William Horwood, who is driving the carriage; opposite is her niece Edith Mary Horwood (née Archer). The man standing is Edith’s husband Albert Horwood, son of William. The girl in the centre has not been identified.

Notes
1. The record of the marriage, from the register kept at the parish church of St Mary, records William as a bachelor, presumably in error, and states that the marriage was by licence.
2. Children William James Yeo, Ellen Yeo, Ernest John Yeo, Mabel Yeo. Did John and Elizabeth also have a son John? See John Yeo and Catherine Lee.
