Philip Yeo and Elizabeth Higgins

Philip Yeo was baptised at Stratton in 1744 to parents Robert Yeo and Elizabeth Elliot. He married Elizabeth Higgins at Stratton in 1777 and they baptised three children there:
– William Yeo (see below)
– Mary Yeo (1781)
– Richard Yeo (1787).

William Yeo (baptised 1779 at Stratton, son of Philip Yeo and Elizabeth Higgins) married Elizabeth Hopgood at Hartland in 1806. They had eight children, the eldest of whom was:
– Richard Yeo (see below).

Richard Yeo, son of William Yeo and Elizabeth Hopgood, was baptised at Stratton in 1807 and became a shoemaker. He first married Ann Saunders at Stratton in 1827; they had eight children [note 1], including:
– Thomas Yeo (baptised 1832, married Ann Gist at Stratton in 1854)
– Richard Yeo (see Richard Yeo and Elizabeth Penfound)
– Mary Yeo (1842–1871, daughter Ellen Saunders Yeo born 1865)
– William Yeo (see below)
– Charles Yeo (born 1852, married Maria Kinsman [note 2], seven children including Charles Kinsman Yeo born 1878).

William Yeo (1843–1910, son of Richard Yeo and Ann Saunders) married Mary Ann Wyatt in 1867 [note 3]. They had twelve children:

– Margaret Minnie Yeo (1870–1956, married Henry Hayward in 1892)
– Louisa Mary Yeo (1871–1948, did not marry)
– William Yeo (1873–1929, married Alice Maud Symon, three children)
– Frank Yeo (1874–1948, married Emma Grace Everson in 1928, two children)
– Crispin Yeo (see Lawrence David Yeo of New York City)
– Claude Yeo (1876–1916) [note 4]
– Ella Yeo (1879–1900, did not marry)
– Donald Yeo (1881–1907, did not marry)
– Sidney Yeo (1883–1950)
– Alice Mary Yeo (1884–1961, married Henry Vivian in 1910)
– Annie Yeo (1886–1963).

Harry Treble Yeo (1869–1919, son of William Yeo and Ann Saunders) married Annie Maria Cater in 1893. They had five children, including:
– Hubert Claud Cater Yeo (1895–1917) [note 5].

Notes:
1. No children are recorded from Richard’s second marriage to Sarah Folley (who survived Richard and died in 1902 at the age of 80). Richard died at Stratton in 1889.
2. Also recorded as Mary Emma Kinsman.
3. The 1891 census records William and Mary Ann living in Bridge Street, Stratton with ten children; William is a boot and shoe maker.
4. Birth registered as Claud Yeo. He died at the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916, while serving on H.M.S. Indefatigable.
5. Died while serving in France with the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry.
