Philip Yeo and Elizabeth Higgins

Philip Yeo (1744–1794) was baptised at Stratton to parents Robert Yeo and Elizabeth Elliot. He married Elizabeth Higgins at Stratton in 1777; they baptised three children there:
– William Yeo (see below)
– Mary Yeo (1781)
– Richard Yeo (1787).

William Yeo (baptised 1779 at Stratton, son of Philip Yeo and Elizabeth Higgins) married Elizabeth Hopgood at Hartland in 1806. They baptised eight children at Stratton:
– Richard Yeo (see below)
– Elizabeth Yeo (baptised 1809)
– William Davis Yeo (baptised 1812)
– John Yeo (baptised 1817)
– Jane Yeo (1821–1885, married Nathaniel Pethick)
– William Yeo (baptised 1825)
– Thomas Martin Yeo (baptised 1828)
– Mary Ann Yeo (1830–1879, married James Legg, died in Australia).

Richard Yeo (1807–1889, son of William Yeo and Elizabeth Hopgood) was baptised at Stratton. He trained as a shoemaker, and first married Ann Saunders at Stratton in 1827. They had seven children:

Richard’s wife Ann died in 1873. He married Sarah Folley at Stratton in 1880 [note 1].

Thomas Yeo (1832–1879, son of Richard Yeo and Ann Saunders) was baptised at Stratton. He married Ann Gist at Stratton in 1854. They lived at Kilkhampton, where they had five children:

William Yeo (1842–1910, son of Richard Yeo and Ann Saunders) married Mary Ann Wyatt in 1867 [note 2]. They had 12 children:

– Louisa Mary Yeo (1871–1948)
– William Yeo (1873–1929, married Alice Maud Symons, three children including Evelyn Maud Yeo, 1898–1986)

– Claude Yeo (1876–1916) [note 3]
– Ella Yeo (1879–1900)
– Donald Yeo (1881–1907)

– Annie Yeo (1886–1963, married Reynolds Harry Wood).

John Yeo (1854–1908, son of Thomas Yeo and Ann Gist) married Drusilla Tarrant. They had five children:
– Mira Drusilla Yeo (1877–1884)
– Abery Theophilus Yeo (1879–1901)
– Beatrice Maud Yeo (1882–1946, married Herbert Edward Sharp)
– Oliver Evan Yeo (1887–1948, married Beryl Kathleen Nixon)
– Florence Mira Yeo (1892–1914).

Harry Treble Yeo (1869–1919, son of William Yeo and Mary Ann Wyatt) married Annie Maria Cater in 1893. They had five children [note 4], including:
– Hubert Claud Cater Yeo (1895–1917) [note 5].

Crispin Yeo (1876–1962, son of William Yeo and Mary Ann Wyatt) married Ray Davis in Lancashire in 1901. They had three children:
– Harry Edgar Yeo (see below)
– Lawrence Noel Yeo (1903–1991, married Joan Biscomb and Annie Cecilia Mary Overee)
– Ella Margaret Yeo (1905–1968).

Harry Edgar Yeo (1902–1961) married twice. His first marriage was at Chorlton Register Office in 1922 to Doris Gertrude Broadmeadow [note 6]. They had a daughter:
– Patricia Jessie Yeo (1922–2008, married twice).
Harry emigrated to Canada; his second marriage was to Ida May Walsh at Port McNicoll, Ontario in 1924. They moved to New York City [note 7] and had three children:
– Winifred Yeo (born 1926)
– Harry Donald Yeo (1927–2010)
Lawrence David Yeo.
The death of Harry Edgar Yeo is recorded in Ohio.

Notes
1. Sarah survived Richard and died in 1902 at the age of 80.
2. The 1891 census records William and Mary Ann living in Bridge Street, Stratton with ten children; William is a boot and shoe maker.
3. Birth registered as Claud Yeo. He died at the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916, while serving on HMS Indefatigable.
4. Did Harry and Annie have a daughter Winifred Margaret Yeo?
5. Hubert died while serving in France with the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry.
6. 1902–1975, re-married 1929.
7. The 1930 census for New York City records the family at 319 East 100th Street. Harry Yeo is 28, his birthplace inaccurately recorded as Vermont rather than England. Ida is also 20, and was born in Canada. Their children are Winifred (age 4 years, 11 months) and Harry (2 years, 10 months). Lawrence was born later in 1930.
