The 1939 Register for Mortehoe lists Thomas and Dorcas Yeo at Lily Cottage with their youngest son Samuel. Thomas is an 80-year-old retired heavy labourer, Dorcas is 69 [note 1] and Samuel is a 32-year-old gardener.
Thomas Yeo and Dorcas Fry had married in 1891. They had eight children:
– Ella Gertrude Yeo (1892–1993)
– William Thomas Yeo (1894–1985)
– Sydney Charles Yeo (1895–1986)
– Christopher John Yeo (1896–1944, married Lily Ivy Cann)
– Ethel Rose Yeo (1900–1971, married Sidney Huelin)
– Ivy Bertha Yeo (1903–1993, married William John Bennett)
– Daisy Blanche Yeo (1905–2001, married William Henry Parkin)
– Ernest Samuel Yeo (1907–1978).

1. Occupation shown as ‘unpaid domestic duties’. Dorcas’s year of birth is recorded clearly but incorrectly as 1877 – she was born in 1870 to parents Richard and Ann Fry (née Fry) and died in 1950 at the age of 80.
2. Frederick George Yeo and Florence Pittard, who are listed with children Kenneth, Thomas, Francis, Muriel and Norah.
3. Cuthbert George Yeo had married Mildred May Yeo in 1932.
4. Samuel John Yeo and Eliza Ann Conibear. Listed with them is their son David Yeo, a 32-year-old fishmonger.
