Thomas Yeo and Elizabeth Hill

Thomas Yeo (1744–1787) was baptised and lived at Werrington. He married Elizabeth Hill at Ashwater in 1768. Their five children were baptised at Werrington:
– Mary Yeo (baptised 1768; her illegitimate daughter Elizabeth Yeo, 1802–1899, married Henry Jago)
– Thomas Yeo (see below)
– William Yeo (baptised 1771)
– Elizabeth Yeo (baptised 1777)
– Susannah Yeo (baptised 1782).

Thomas Yeo (baptised at Werrington in 1771, son of Thomas Yeo and Elizabeth Hill) has divided opinion among researchers.

One possibility is that Thomas married Jane Allin at West Putford in 1797; they lived in Newton St Petrock and baptised five children there. Some researchers instead believe that this Thomas Yeo was the third son of William Yeo and Anne Hancock and had been baptised at Newton St Petrock in 1770.

The other possibility is that Thomas married Elizabeth Mason at Boyton in 1794. Sheila favoured this option after studying a summary of the will of John Yeo of Tetcott, proved by his son John Yeo in 1809, but her evidence is not convincing.
