Alfred Yeo (1880–1964) was the fifth of six sons of George Yeo and Jane Hill of Cheriton Bishop, and a grandson of Joseph Yeo and Ann Westcott. He moved to Sussex as a young man, where he married Sarah Ann Caroline Burtenshaw in 1902.
The 1911 census records them at 2 St Aubyn’s Road in the Fishersgate area of Portslade-by-Sea. Alfred is 29 and working as a carter at a gas works, his wife Sarah is 28 and their three eldest children are living with them. They had at least four:
– Lilian Christine Yeo (1903–1987, married Edward Wright)
– Frederick George Yeo (1907–1944, married Laura Strevens, two sons)
– Albert Henry Yeo (1911–1989, married Violet Puttock, two daughters)
– Leslie Yeo (1920–2017, married Kathleen Brooker, three children).
Alfred and Sarah were still at 2 St Aubyn’s Road when the 1939 Register was compiled. Alfred is now 59 and is working as a lorry driver. Leslie appears still to be living at home.
