The 1881 census records 51-year-old naval pensioner Thomas Yeo at 2 Clowance Lane in the Mount Wise area of Plymouth. His birthplace is shown as Okehampton; he is working as a painter’s labourer. Listed with Thomas are his wife Jane Yeo (also 51, birthplace Bodmin) and boarder Hannah Hogan (a scholar aged 4, born in Devonport).
Jane died in Plymouth Workhouse in 1903 at the age of 74. Her death certificate records her as the widow of Thomas Yeo, a Naval pensioner.
Little else is known about Thomas. He appears to have died in 1884 (death registered at Stoke Damerel, age 53), but no matching baptism record has been found and his parents have not been identified – might they have been William Yeo and Mary Ann Spear?
