Notes
1. No marriage record found. Line of descent from research by Sheila Yeo.
1a. William re-married in 1869. His second wife was his sister-in-law Elizabeth Ann Yeo née Hockridge, widow of Barbara’s brother Thomas Yeo.
2. The 1861 census for Toronto records Samuel as a horse-drawn cab driver, with his Irish-born wife Anna and children Anna Jane (age 9), Elizabeth (5) and Samuel John (3).
3. The 1901 census records Chamond in Ottawa working as a tailor, with his wife Matilda. He might have had a previous wife called Ellen.
4. As suggested by a correspondent of Sheila Yeo. This appears to be incorrect; there is no matching baptism at Launcells, Stoke Damerel or Stratton.
5. Surname recorded as Vincent when the births of her children Jane, Thomas and Daniel were registered.
6. Surname also recorded as Bicknell.
7. The family is recorded at Underwood, Launcells in the 1851 census. William is a 40-year-old agricultural labourer, his wife Mary is 36 and was born at Week St Mary, and his children – all born at Stratton – are Ann (age 10), William (8) and James (6).
8. Ann did not marry, as confirmed by her probate record. Some researchers have shown her marrying Salathiel Braunde in London in 1848, which is clearly inaccurate as she would have been only nine years old in 1848.
9. Sheila Yeo recorded that William had a wife called Ellen, but no matching marriage registration has been found and his probate record makes no reference to next of kin.
10. Second forename also recorded as Hockeridge.
10a. It is not clear whether their first daughter Elizabeth Alice was born in England, during their emigration or in Prince Edward Island.
11. No baptism record has been found for John or for his sister Elizabeth; their brother Thomas Yeo was baptised at Hartland. The 1841 census for Hartland records John (age 6) living in Pound Street, Hartland with his parents and his sister Elizabeth (age 4).
12. Also recorded as Stanley Johnstone Yeo.
