John Yeo and Elizabeth Brace

Please read About Families before using any of the information on this page.

John Yeo was a son of John Yeo and Margery Stacey and a great grandson of Thomas Yeo and Mary Davis. His family was studied by Sheila Yeo’s correspondent Kaye Kelly [note 1].

John was born at Tawstock about 1824 [note 2], farmed nearby at Harroctt, and died there in 1877. He married Elizabeth Brace [note 3] at Tawstock in 1851; they had five children:
– Henry Yeo (born 1853) [note 4]
John Yeo
– George Yeo (born 1857)
– Mary Ann Yeo (1859–1891, married John Pearce, six children including Thomas John Yeo Pearce, see below)
– Thomas Yeo (born 1861)
– Elizabeth Yeo (born 1864).

Thomas John Yeo Pearce (1884–1959, son of John Pearce and Mary Ann Yeo) was born at Yarnscombe and married Martha Kent in 1906. The 1911 census records them living in Yarnscombe, where Thomas is a labourer for a mason; with them is their daughter Elizabeth Pearce. The 1939 Register records them farming at Roodge, a short distance north of Yarnscombe; they had since had two further children.

Notes
1. Kathryn Frances Kelly née Williams (1922–2017).
2. Baptism record not found.
3. Elizabeth was baptised at Tawstock in 1820. No death or re-marriage has been found for her – she might have emigrated to Minnesota to join her son John, but there is no mention of this in Kaye Kelly’s research.
4. Henry is recorded at Tawstock in the 1871 census. He might have married Emma Lewis and died in South Wales (confirmation needed).
