Golant is a small parish about three miles north of Fowey in south Cornwall. John Yeo married Ann Smith at the parish church there in 1822.
John is recorded as a sojourner, i.e. not resident in the parish. His place of residence and his parents have not been confirmed, but he might have been the John Yeo baptised in the south Cornwall parish of Lansallos in 1799 to parents William Yeo and Honor Broad.
Local labourer John Hatherly married Ann Yeo in the same church in 1826 [note 1]. John Hatherly and his wife Ann are recorded in Golant the 1851 census, aged 73 and 42 respectively, with three children.

1. Ann is likely to have been John Yeo’s widow (although no burial record has been found for John). Ann’s age appears to have been under-stated in the 1851 census return – she was about 50 (and therefore old enough have married in 1822). Her age was recorded as 82 when her death was registered at St Austell in 1883.
