William Victor Yeo Burton (1884–1969, known as Victor) was born at 72 King Gardens in the Stonehouse area of Plymouth. Victor was living in Saltash in 1891 [note 2].

He was living in Dorset in 1901 [note 3], but he emigrated soon afterwards.

Victor married twice in South Africa: to Ellen Grant in 1904 [note 4] and to Mary Malecky in 1944 [note 5]. He died in Cape Town.

Notes
1. A transcribed record of Victor’s 1904 marriage names his father as William Henry Yeo. His mother was born in Bodmin and there was a William Henry Yeo living in Bodmin in the 1880s – the fourth son of Richard Yeo and Jane Marshall, but this is insufficient evidence to provide a definitive identification of Victor’s father.
2. The 1891 census records Victor with his mother Elizabeth Burton at 6 Home Park Place, Saltash. Elizabeth is aged 23, is single, and was born at Bodmin. Victor is a scholar aged 7, and was born in Plymouth.
3. The 1901 census records Victor in Station Road, Gillingham. He is hairdresser’s assistant aged 19 and appears to be lodging with the family of his employer Charles Warr.
4. Married at Potchefstroom, Transvaal. Victor is recorded on the marriage certificate as a 23-year-old bachelor born in England. Ellen as a 23-year-old spinster born in England.
5. Victor is recorded on the marriage certificate as a 60-year-old divorcé working in a munitions factory. Mary is 25-year-old hairdresser, previously unmarried.
