William Yeo (c1815–1865) [note 1] married Charlotte Markey in 1843 at Stourton in Wiltshire.
The 1851 census records them in Wylye, a village about half way between Warminster and Salisbury. William Yeo is a 35-year-old police constable, his wife Charlotte Yeo is 38, and their sons William H. Yeo (age 7) and Thomas Yeo (5) were both born at Stourton. Also listed in the household is 10-year-old Joseph Markey [note 2].
William and Charlotte had two sons:
– William Henry Yeo (1844–1867, married Hannah Ann James) [note 3]
– Thomas Yeo (born 1845).
The 1881 census records Charlotte Yeo in Wylye, a 70-year-old widow in receipt of parish relief. Her 35-year-old unmarried son Thomas is listed with her and is working as a groom. Charlotte died later that year; nothing further is known about Thomas.

Notes
1. William’s parents have not been identified, but the 1851 census return referred to above gives his birthplace as Swimbridge – so he might have been a son of Thomas Yeo and Mary Southcombe.
2. Joseph is recorded as a son of the head of the household but his birthplace is given as Epping, Essex (although no matching birth registration has been found). It seems unlikely that he was William’s son, and might have been a visitor.
3. Married in 1866 at the parish church in Wylye. William has followed his father’s career and is recorded as a policeman.
