Thomas Yeo (1813–1863) was baptised at Ashford, near Barnstaple, to parents Samuel Yeo and Elizabeth Wedlake. He married Grace Knill at Mortehoe in 1834; their nine children were born at Ilfracombe:

– John Yeo
– Elizabeth Yeo (born 1838, died as an infant) [note 1]
– Thomas Yeo (born c1839) [note 2]
– William Yeo (1842–1918, married Mary Hancock)
– George Yeo (born 1844, emigrated to Pennsylvania, married Kathryn Howard Breakiron)
– Samuel Yeo (born c1847) [note 2]
– Isaac Yeo (born 1849)
– Eliza Yeo (born 1852)
– James Yeo (born 1854).
Thomas worked as an agricultural labourer; he and Grace are recorded in the 1841 census for Ilfracombe with children Mary, John, Elizabeth and Thomas.
They are recorded in the 1851 census at Furze Hill Cottage, Ilfracombe with children John, Thomas, William, George, Samuel and Isaac.
At some time after 1854 they moved to south Wales; the 1861 census records them in Briton Ferry, Glamorganshire with children George, Samuel, Isaac, Eliza and James.
