As recorded in Descendants of Thomas Yea of Yea, Wiveliscombe, a Tiverton newspaper announced the death in France on 11 March 1915 of Private John Yeo of the Devonshire Regiment.
John was the second of nine children of George Yaw and Maria Warren. His service record shows that he enlisted at Exeter at the age of 17; he was living in Heavitree at the time and had been working as a labourer. His father is recorded as George Yeo of Neddicott, Upton Pyne. John served in South Africa and India and was discharged, but was later recalled for service in France.
