The 1841 census

The 1841 census for England and Wales was taken on 6 June. There are 1172 records for Yeo and variant surnames [note 1]. The census can be searched at Ancestry or FindMyPast. A subscription is required, and images of household returns can be viewed. There is a facility to report transcription errors.

The presentation of the 1841 census, which has been described as the first modern census, differs in two respects from later censuses:
– Ages of adults are recorded to the nearest five years [note 2]
– The place of birth is not recorded, only whether the person was born in the county or elsewhere

A census was taken in Scotland on the same date. There appear to be no records for Yeo or for the surname variants. The census can be searched at Scotland’s People.

A census was taken in Ireland on the same date. There appear to be no records for Yeo or for the surname variants.
