Horace Montague Yeo and Ethel Best

Horace Montague Yeo (1885–1972) [note 1] married Ethel Best in Islington in 1913 [note 2].

Horace had been born in 1885, the younger of two sons of George Yeo and Tabitha Sarah Humphrys, who had married at a Catholic ceremony ten years previously [note 3].

Horace and Ethel had a son Horace Basil Yeo (1917–2003), who married Doris Jones.

Notes
1. Horace’s birth was not registered – the year shown is taken from the 1939 Register. His age is inaccurately recorded as 25 on his marriage certificate (he was 28), and his year of birth was inaccurately recorded as 1886 when his death was registered. It is not clear where he was born – the 1891 census records his birthplace as Bayswater, the 1901 census as Queens Park Estate, and the 1911 census as Kilburn.
2. They married at the parish church of St Mark, Tollington Park. Horace is recorded as a bachelor, a porter for the London and North West Railway, address 209 Hornsey Road. Ethel is a spinster of 9 Durham Road, Woolwich.
3. This Catholic aspect might explain why the births of their two sons were not registered (it would be useful to find their baptism records). George and Tabitha’s elder son Harry Yeo (1879–1950) married Eleanor Stewart – they had two daughters.
