This couple and their four children are included in the passenger list for the liner Canada, which left Liverpool on 3 November 1923 bound for Montreal. Archibald is described as a 41-year-old farmer [note 1], Maude is 38 and their children are Edith Marion (age 9), Sybil Irene (7), Archibald (5) and John Joseph (3).
Archibald and his family had previously lived in Canada; this time they stayed there for eight years, returning in 1932 to live in Lancashire [note 2]. The 1939 Register records them in Stockport, Cheshire [note 3].
Archibald Yeo (1882–1951) was born at Thornbury [note 4], the youngest of six children of John Yeo and Hannah Maria Folley. He moved to Surrey, where he married Maude Evelyn Janaway [note 5] in 1910. They soon emigrated to Canada and settled in Toronto, where their first daughter was born:
– Edith Marion Yeo (born 1911, married Clifford Paul Morgan 1931 in Toronto).
Archibald and Maude returned to England and lived in Guildford, where they had three more children:
– Sybil Irene Yeo (1914–2001)
– Archibald Verdun Yeo (1917–1995, married Eva Flanagan) [note 6]
– John Joseph Yeo (born 1919).
They emigrated again in 1923, as described above, and had another son before they returned to England in 1932:
– Francis William Yeo (1924–1980).

Notes
1. His ‘last address in the United Kingdom’ is recorded as 6 Stoke Terrace, Stoke Road, Guildford. He is recorded elsewhere as a bricklayer and – according to his grandson Eric Yeo – he became a builder, so perhaps the record of Archibald’s occupation is inaccurate or he stated that he intended to farm in Canada.
2. The passenger list for the SS Duchess of York, which had sailed from Montreal, records the arrival at Liverpool on 20 August 1932 of Maude Evelyn Yeo with her children Sybil, John and Francis. Their ‘proposed address in the United Kingdom’ is recorded as 14 Grafton Street, Ashton-under-Lyne; Archibald is not listed.
3. The entry for 49 Woodhall Road, Stockport lists bricklayer Archibald Yeo with Maude E. Yeo, Sybil I. Yeo, Archibald V. Yeo, John J. Yeo and Francis W. Yeo.
4. The 1891 census for Thornbury, near Holsworthy records 42-year-old mason John Yeo at South Wandford with his wife Hannah (age 40), daughter Emily (16) and son Archibald (9).
5. 1887–1982, daughter of Joseph Janaway and Ann Deacon. Born in Hampshire; birth registered at Kinsgsclere.
6. Six children, including David Clifford Yeo (1942–2017, married 1974).
