Emigration from England to New Zealand started to take place in significant numbers in the early 1840s, after emigration to Canada, the United States, South Africa and Australia had become established, and many of the early emigrants travelled there from Australia. Since that time, the number of New Zealanders with Yeo or variant surnames has remained fairly small.
