Corporal William Yoe of Barnstaple was discharged from the Devon Regiment in December 1816, suffering from chronic rheumatism. His military record shows that he had served as an infantryman with the Regiment since October 1808 and had been promoted from Private to Corporal, but does not give his age, year of birth or next of kin [note 1].
Did William marry Eleanor Askew at East Stonehouse in 1816? If you can confirm or contradict this, and if you can identify his line of descent, please use the Contact Us page.
Note
1. According to research by David Yaw, William was in the 1st Battalion of the 35th Regiment of Foot, which saw service in the Mediterranean from 1807 to 1814.
