Evelyn Claudia Yeo de Marseille was born in Wales in 1884 to parents Louis de Marseille and Elizabeth Annice Yeo.
Her father had died by the time the 1901 census was taken – Evelyn and her mother were living in Fleetwood, Lancashire. When she married Emanuel Wilson the following year she was given away by her grandfather William Sanders Yeo. A local newspaper [note 2] carried a lengthy report of the wedding.
