The wrong son recorded

Joseph Yeo of South Tawton (1786–1853) moved to Bristol. He married Lucy Butler in the Bristol parish of St John the Baptist, Bedminster in 1809 [note 1].

Joseph and Lucy baptised a daughter at Bedminster:
– Louisa Yeo (bap 1817).

They then baptised four sons [note 2] at St Mary Redcliffe:
Joseph Yeo
– George Lackland Yeo (1818–1820)
– John Yeo (bap 1825 at the age of four)
– Edward Yeo (bap 1835 at the age of eleven).

Notes
1. The parish register records Joseph’s surname as Yoaw and he is also referred to as Joseph Yea. Lucy had been baptised in 1785 in the Bristol parish of St Mary Redcliffe to parents Edward and Mary Butler.
2. One of these sons died before his second birthday, as Carole Harkin pointed out in an email to Sheila Yeo in 2003. The parish register for St Mary Redcliffe records the burial in 1820 of ‘Joseph Yeo of Colston Street Bedminster age 21 months’ but the wording is incorrect as Joseph lived until 1871. The age of this child is a fit for Joseph’s brother George Lackland Yeo and should have read ‘George Lackland Yeo son of Joseph Yeo of Colston Street Bedminster age 21 months’.
