The parish register for Kilkhampton records the baptism in 1808 of a daughter Mary to parents Thomas and Mary Yeo. Reg Walter gave her date of birth as 12 August.
Humphrey Toms noted that Mary went on to marry William Glover at Stratton in 1831. The parish register shows that William was from the parish of Kilkhampton. Mary was from Stratton and the ceremony had been preceded by the reading of banns.
Toms added that they had children at Kilkhampton and emigrated to Canada in 1843.
We have not been able to establish who Thomas and Mary Yeo were, which might indicate an error in the baptism record or that they were from another parish and not permanently resident in Kilkhampton. Reg Walter noted that their marriage was not recorded in Boyd’s Marriage Index. It is possible that Mary’s parents were Thomas Yeo and Mary or Maria Vinson, who married at Stratton in 1833, three years after Mary Yeo’s baptism. Thomas Yeo might have been a son of Chammond Yeo and Margaret Sharsell, who married at Kilkhampton in 1799.
