The entries for Stratton in the 1939 Register make interesting reading.

Listed at 1 Bridge Street, close to the bridge over the River Strat, is a household comprising three women: 57-year-old widow Violet Yeo [note 1], whose occupation is recorded as milliner, her mother 57-year-old dressmaker Emily Rolstone (a single woman) and domestic servant Georgina Barratt (age 28, also single) [note 2].

Living nearby at Pencroft – a property close to Stratton Hospital – are Alice M. Yeo and Evelyn M. Yeo [note 3]. Adjacent to Alice and Evelyn at Pywell are Frank Yeo and his wife Emma G. Yeo. Yeos have lived in the north Cornwall town of Stratton since the earliest surviving records.
