Mary Gerry died at Shobhill, Okehampton in 1892. Her death certificate describes her as the 79-year-old widow of agricultural labourer William Gerry; the informant was her daughter Mary Jane Quick.
William Gerry and Mary Yeo married in 1861 at the parish church at Sourton, to the west of Okehampton.
If her age at death was recorded accurately, Mary Yeo would have been baptised about 1813. However, the age recorded for her in the 1871 census for Okehampton (when she was living at 27 Shobhill Common) is 42 and her birthplace is recorded as South Tawton. The presence in the same household of her husband William Gerry (age 65, birthplace Sourton) and her daughter Mary Jane Gerry (age 9) confirms that this is the right family, but Mary’s age is given inaccurately in this record. She was baptised at South Tawton in 1814 to parents Robert Yeo and Sarah Harvey, making her about 57 when the 1871 census was taken and a good match to her age at death.
