An American correspondent has sent us a link to records of 19th-century marriage bonds issued in the state of Virginia. These include a bond issued on 4 March 1814 for the marriage of Joshua Yoe and Alley Duffey.
The groom was born in Virginia in 1791 and died in 1836. The bride is described in the bond as ‘an orphan of Bernard Duffy’.
Joshua and Alley had a daughter Alcinda Yoe (born 1834), who married Ethan Kelly.
