The Ontario newspaper Windsor Star carried an announcement on 4 November 1955 of the death of 88-year-old Laura Toop. The short article mentions her unmarried sisters Amy Yeo and Maud Yeo, both resident in England.
Laura Yeo had been born in London in 1867. She married Herbert Toop in 1898, and emigrated to Canada with him in 1906, initially settling in Saskatchewan [note 1].
Laura’s parents John James Yeo (born in Wiltshire in 1832, son of James Yeo and Fanny Alexander) and Ann Yeo (daughter of Jesse Yeo and Sarah Prior) had married at Lyneham in 1856. They had six other children:
– Annie Yeo (1860–1952, married Henry Hills)
– James Yeo (1865–1945, married Jessie Willetts)
– Frank Yeo (1868–1969)
– Percy John Yeo (1870–1870)
– Amy Yeo (1871–1963)
– Ellen Maud Yeo (1873–1961).

1. The 1921 census records them farming in Last Mountain, Saskatchewan. Herbert is 40, Laura is 49 – they have three children and Herbert’s brother Walter Toop is listed with them.
