Herbert Thomas Wass and Emily Vivian Yeo Fraser

Sheila was sent details of this London marriage by a correspondent; she was unable to find the bride’s birth and appears not to have identified her.

The marriage took place at the parish church of St Augustine, Kilburn in 1899. Herbert is recorded as a 25-year-old bachelor, a grocer of 4 Kilburn Park Road, son of painter Alfred Wass. Emily is recorded as a 20-year-old spinster of 20A Auckland Terrace, West Norwood, daughter of mason George Fraser, who signed as a witness. The marriage took place after the reading of banns.

George Fraser was not Emily’s father; he was her stepfather. She was born Emily Vivian Yeo in 1878 and baptised the same year. Her parents William Yeo and Mary Jane Vivian [note 1] had married in London in 1873 [note 2]; they had two other children:
– William John Yeo (born 1875)
– Edith Louisa Vivian Yeo (1877–1966, married John Mills in 1897) [notes 3, 4].

William Yeo died in 1880 and Mary re-married, to George Fraser in 1883 [note 5].

Emily was also widowed – her husband Herbert died in 1912 and she emigrated to New South Wales [note 6], where she married Robert Francis Brooks in 1919. She lived until 1937.
