The 1881 census for Drewsteignton records 53-year-old George Lampey farming 97 acres at Swallowfield. In his household are his wife Sarah Lampey (age 41, birthplace Chittlehampton), his sons Albert and Louis Lampey and his stepchildren Isaac Yeo (age 15) and Hannah Yeo (age 14).
Sarah Yeo (c1840–1890) was born at Chittlehampton [note 1]. The births of her first two children were registered at Barnstaple with the surname Manning [note 2]:
– Isaac Yeo (1865–1940, married Bessie Tripp)
– Hannah Yeo (1867–1954, married John Howe)
Sarah married George Lampey in 1874.

1. Sarah’s parents have not been identified; her birth appears not to have been registered and there is no record of her baptism.
2. This information might be a clue to the identity of Isaac and Hannah’s father. The 1881 census records their birthplace as Swimbridge and their surname as Yeo.
