The 1939 Register records Edgar L Yeo living at Meads in Woldingham, Surrey. His occupation is shown as ‘manager car salesman’ and a note reads ‘later Lieutenant Machine Gun Corps’. Listed with him are his wife Dora Yeo and their daughter Gladys D. Yeo.
Edgar Leslie Yeo (1895–1973) had been born in Surrey, the second of four children of James Yeo and Edith Florence Ralph [note 1], who had married at the parish church of St Paul in Hook, Surrey in 1893.
Edgar married Dora Hoffman [notes 2, 3] in Switzerland 1923. They had two children:
– Gladys Doreen Yeo (1929–1999, did not marry)
– James Alfred Yeo (1928–1963) [note 4].

1. James Yeo (1859–1940) had previously married Ellen Clark in London in 1883. Ellen died in 1893 after having three sons. For more information see James Yeo – from rags to riches.
2. Dora’s date of birth matches the baptism of a Dora Hoffman at St Paul, Birkenhead in 1899 to parents John Frederick Hoffman and Jane Grocott. She died in 1992.
3. Edgar and Dora are listed in the 1939 Register with their daughter Gladys at Meads, Park View Road in Woldingham, Surrey.
4. James became a major in the army and was awarded the Military Cross – it is not clear whether he married.
