Edgar Leslie Yeo and Dora Hoffman

The 1939 Register records Edgar L Yeo living at Meads in Woldingham, Surrey. His occupation is shown as ‘manager car salesman’ and a note reads ‘later Lieutenant Machine Gun Corps’. Listed with him are his wife Dora Yeo and their daughter Gladys D Yeo.

Edgar Leslie Yeo had been born in Surrey in 1895, the second of four children of James Yeo and his second wife Edith Florence Ralph [note 1], who had married at the parish church of St Paul in Hook, Surrey in 1893.

No record has been found of Edgar’s marriage to Dora [note 2], whose date of birth matches the baptism of a Dora Hoffman at St Paul, Birkenhead in 1899 to parents John Frederick Hoffman and Jane Grocott.

Their daughter Gladys Doreen Yeo (1929–1999) did not marry. They had a son James Alfred Yeo (1928–1963), who became a major in the army and was awarded the Military Cross – it is not clear whether he married.

Edgar died in 1973 and Dora lived until 1992.
