The 1939 Register for Swadlincote in Derbyshire records 14-year-old Dorothy M. Sales at 1 Nelson Street. She is listed with her widowed mother Gladys Sales, her 16-year-old brother Albert A. Sales and 46-year-old Tatton Belfitt [note 1]. The entry for Dorothy is marked with two later surnames [note 2] and her second forename has been completed with the addition of ‘ay’.
Dorothy May Sales (1925–1998) married Eddy Yeo in 1945.
Eddy died in 1961. He died ‘on the way to the General Hospital’ and the death was registered by D.M. Yeo ‘widow of deceased’.

Notes
1. 1898–1951, recoded in 1939 and 1921 as a joiner.
2. See research notes on The 1939 Register.
3. No matching birth registration for Eddy has been found. An Edwin Yeo born in Surrey in 1920 might appear to be a good match for his age, but is not the same person – he married Eva Doris Punt in 1944 and lived until 2013.
4. Her second husband was Charles Edwin Mansfield (1908–1922).
