Christopher Charles Andrew and Kathleen Jane Yeo

This couple married in December 1939 at the church of St Michael in the Middlesex parish of Yiewsley [note 1].

Christopher is recorded as a 25-year-old bachelor, a labourer and a son of Charles Andrew deceased. Kathleen was seven years younger, and also previously unmarried. Banns had been read, and the couple lived next door to each other in Horton Road within the parish. They are recorded on the same page in the 1939 Register from information taken three months before the wedding – Christopher an engineer’s motor labourer living with his widowed mother Florence M. Andrew at 65 Horton Road, and Kathleen a flour packer living with Charles and Ada Dopson at 63 Horton Road. Charles signed the marriage certificate as a witness; perhaps neither of the bride’s parents was present.

There are two mistakes on the certificate. First, the groom’s name has been written as Christopher James Andrew, with James altered to Charles and marked with the initials of the vicar. Second, the bride’s father is recorded as Henry James Yeo, occupation driver’s mate – but his name was John Henry Yeo.

The marriage of Kathleen’s parents John Henry Yeo [note 2] and Grace Maud Beasley (1888–1972) was recorded in the Uxbridge registration district in 1914. They had five children:
– Grace Annie Yeo (1915–2003, married Charles Frederick John Evans and later her sister’s widower William Henry Hazelgrove)
– Frances Rose Yeo (1917–1972, who is recorded with her parents in the 1939 Register at 27 Florence Road, Southall, and who married William Henry Hazelgrove later that year)
– Kathleen Jane Yeo (as detailed above, 1921–1999)
– Harry James Yeo (1924–2007, married Beryl May Grace)
– Arthur David Yeo (born 1926, died as an infant).
