Charles Adam Yeo and Elizabeth Irving

Please read About Families before using any of the information on this page.

The 1939 Register records 57-year-old Charles Yeo at 11 Belmont View, a turning off West Derby Road in the Everton area of Liverpool. His occupation is recorded as ‘general labourer, heavy worker’. Listed with Charles are 49-year-old Lilian Kelly (recorded as Lily Yeo), occupation ‘unpaid domestic duties’, and a third person, possibly Lilian’s daughter.

Charles Adam Yeo had been born in Barrow-in-Furness in 1883 to parents Charles Matthew Yeo and Elizabeth Bailey [note 1]. He married Elizabeth Irving at Barrow-in-Furness in 1901 and had three children with her:
– Charles Yeo (1902–1972)
– Andrew Yeo (born 1903)
– Elsie Yeo (born 1906)
but, as described above, Charles Yeo senior was living with Lilian when the 1939 Register was taken. There is no record of their having married (there is also no evidence that Elizabeth had died before 1939), nor does Charles appear to have been the father of Lilian’s daughter even though she later used the surname Yeo [note 2].

Notes
1. Charles and Elizabeth married at the parish church of St John, Barrow-in-Furness in 1901. Elizabeth might previously have been married, as her surname is recorded as Thompson on her sons’ birth certificates. Charles and Elizabeth had an older son William Yeo (1880–1945, married Emma Gregory).
2. Her marriage to Thomas Henry Povah (1908–1956) is recorded with the surname Yeo in 1947; she later married William Lamont in 1973.
