Charles Adam Yeo and Elizabeth Irving

Please read About Families before using any of the information on this page.

The 1939 Register records 57-year-old Charles Yeo at 11 Belmont View, a turning off West Derby Road in the Everton area of Liverpool. His occupation is recorded as ‘general labourer, heavy worker’. Listed with Charles are 49-year-old Lily Kelly (recorded as Lily Yeo), occupation ‘unpaid domestic duties’, and a third person, possibly Lilian’s daughter.

Charles Adam Yeo was born in Barrow-in-Furness in 1883 to parents Charles Matthew Yeo and Elizabeth Baillie [note 1]. He married Elizabeth Irving at the parish church of St John, Barrow-in-Furness in 1901; they had three children:
– Charles Yeo (1902–1972)
– Andrew Yeo (1903–1906)
– Elsie Yeo (born 1906)
but, as described above, Charles Adam Yeo was living with his second wife Lily when the 1939 Register was taken. They married in 1927, but Charles does not appear to have been the father of Lily’s daughter even though she later used the surname Yeo [note 2].

Notes
1. Charles Matthew Yeo and Elizabeth Baillie married in 1887 – Elizabeth might previously have been married, as her surname is recorded as Thompson on her sons’ birth certificates. They had an older son William Yeo (1880–1945, married Emma Gregory).
2. Lily’s marriage in 1947 to Thomas Henry Povah (1908–1956) is recorded with the surname Yeo; she later married William Lamont in 1973.
