Notes
1. William’s baptism record has not been found and his mother has not been identified. He is described in his 1754 marriage record as the son of William Yeo of Combeinteignead, a parish a some six miles north of St Marychurch. He is described as a sojourner in his 1760 marriage record, so perhaps he and his young daughter had returned to Combeinteignead. Sheila Yeo identified William’s parents as William Yeo and Mary Ralfe, who in 1721 baptised a son William in the Cornish parish of St Blazey (about 65 miles west of St Marychurch); she did not provide any evidence to support the connection.
2. Mary was buried in 1755, just over a fortnight before her daughter Mary’s baptism.
3. These baptisms and burials are shown in the St Marychurch parish register with the surname spelt Yaw, Yeo or Yow.
4. Surname also recorded as Weymouth.
5. Confirmation of place of baptism needed; John might have been baptised at Ipplepen.
6. Confirmation of marriage needed.
7. Did John Yeo emigrate to the United States to join his son John?
8. Research by David Yaw suggests the line of descendancy shown.
9. William, Mary Ann and Samuel sailed from Liverpool on the SS Charles, arriving in New York on 5 July 1842.
10. Baptised at St Andrew, Plymouth as Samuel Mew; no matching birth registration found. Samuel’s death certificate records his date of birth as 2 December 1839.
