In the small churchyard at Fremington, a short distance west of Barnstaple, there is a prominent memorial to William Arundell Yeo and other members of his family. But there is also a more modest headstone marking the grave of twice-married Thomas George Yeo. Its lengthy inscription also commemorates his two wives and his daughter Kathleen.
Thomas George Yeo (1884–1953) was born at Swimbridge, the youngest of five children of Richard Yeo and Ann Prowse.
Thomas married Mabel Blanche Ackland in 1910. They had four children:
– Ernest George Yeo (1911–2007, married Kathleen Martha Parish, one daughter)
– Reginald Albert Yeo (1912–1988, married Ivy Holland)
– Kathleen Ivy Yeo (1914–1919)
– Thomas Roland Edward Yeo (1916–2002, married Violet Vigurs, three children).
Mabel died in 1917, and Thomas married Eliza Cooke two years later. There is no record of any children from this second marriage, and it is possible that Eliza had also previously been married; she lived until 1951.
