Mary Yeo née Stonelake

Please read About individuals before using any of the information on this page.

Mary Stonelake was baptised at Bovey Tracey in 1799 – she was about thirteen years old and was recorded as the daughter of Josias Stonelake.

When Mary married William Yeo at Kingsteignton in 1819, her surname was recorded as Stanlake. They lived in the nearby hamlet of Preston had three daughters [note 1].

After William’s death in 1827, Mary continued to live in Preston with her surviving daughters Mary Ann and Sarah. The 1841 census records them there, living with innkeeper John Bowden. The return is completed as if Mary and John were married, but there is no church or civil record of this marriage taking place. Perhaps they told the enumerator that they were married, or he assumed that they were.

Mary continued to live at Preston, and survived John by just over two years. She was buried at Kingsteignton in 1849 [note 2].
