The passenger list for the liner Rangitata, which left London on 26 November 1954 bound for New Zealand, records Mr Sydney M. Yeo (age 66, retired) and Mrs Hilda Yeo (age 63). Their destination was Auckland and they were returning to New Zealand after a visit to England, where they had been staying with a Mrs Philp at Pelynt.
Sheila researched this family in 1994. She found that Sydney Martin Yeo had been born at Braddock in 1889 to parents William Yeo and Harriet Tucker, and had married Hilda Dingle in 1911.
Sydney and Hilda emigrated shortly after their marriage. Their four children were born in New Zealand:
– Edna Yeo (1912–1998, married Alfred George Harris)
– Leslie Vivian Yeo (1914–1957)
– Hilda Evelyn Yeo (born 1916, married Selwyn Melvill Crispe)
– Allan Francis Yeo (1917–1998, married Florence Edna Hard).
Sydney died in 1967; Hilda lived until 1972.
