Russell was the only son of Albert James Solomon Yeo (1901–1989) and Margaret Helen Sutherland, who had married at Cypress River in 1926.
Albert was the youngest of three children of Albert Ernest Yeo (1869–1949) and Mary Ann Angst, who married in Treherne, Manitoba in 1891. His two sisters were:
– Gertrude May Yeo (1894–1987, married Frank Ernest Pontifex)
– Mary Elizabeth Yeo (1897–1990, married John Samuel Bridal).
The 1901 census for Argyle, Manitoba lists Albert as a 30-year-old farmer. With him are his wife Mary Ann (recorded as Maria) and their two daughters.
Previous research by Sheila with Carl Pontifex and Marion McQuay traced this family’s line of descent from Devon emigrants William Yeo and Jane Fanson, who married at Pancrasweek in 1824.
