John Yeo was baptised at Hartland in 1824 to parents Thomas and Dorothy Yeo. He married Cardiff-born Priscilla Lewis by licence at the parish church in St John, near Cardiff in 1846.
On their marriage certificate, John is recorded as a bachelor, his occupation as engineer, and his father as farmer Thomas Yeo. Priscilla is recorded as a widow, daughter of baker Thomas Hallard. Both are recorded as of full age (i.e. over 21) and from St John.
John and Priscilla moved to Lancashire soon after their marriage, and the births of their two children were registered at Blackburn before Priscilla’s death in 1849 at the age of 35:
– Thomas Yeo (born 1847)
– Priscilla Yeo (born 1849).
John re-married in 1858, to Sarah Crowe at Lockwood, near Huddersfield. John and Sarah registered the births of three children at Blackburn:
– Charlotte Yeo (born 1859)
– John William Yeo (born 1860)
– Arthur Yeo (born 1862)
before emigrating to the United States. Their fourth child was born in Chicago:
– Mary Jane Yeo (born 1865).
