John was the second of three sons of Andrew Yeo and Prudence Avery. In 1726 he married Mary Jearn at High Bickington in north Devon. He settled there and became a tailor.
In 1740, John moved to the nearby parish of Roborough with his wife Mary and their four children. John had to satisfy the Overseers of the Poor that he would not be a financial burden to his new parish. As he had a trade, he was able to do this, and was granted permission in the form of a settlement certificate dated 4 July.
Of John and Mary’s sons, only Andrew and John appear to have had children:
– Andrew Yeo married Jean Burrows at Dawlish in 1763; they baptised at least eight children there
– John Yeo married Elizabeth Hockridge at Bishop’s Tawton in 1763; they baptised at least four children at Great Torrington.
